Using a blog for business purposes is a tricky proposition. The main reason for doing a business blog is to increase sales or readership, but content that is purposed at selling a product or service is generally ignored by the public. A blog works best when there is a loyal readership and community interaction, but you will not get that environment if your blog talks about the new product you have put out or your sales figures for the quarter. And while the cost of blog is effectively nil, with the exception of the time spent writing it, it can still be hard to justify the expense of something that is lined up to fail.

The usual workaround for this is to have a blog that focuses on your industry rather than your company, but it is a rare company that will accept that plan. Without a call to action for the companies products, there is nothing stopping the reader from using the blog for information only and then going to a competitor. A blog with a sales message will just cause the reader to close the page with no further actions. It is a rare combination of talent and company approval for a business blog to be a justifiable endeavor.

Should you be updating your blog every day? Well, that depends. Blogs are designed to disseminate information quickly and succinctly. Most blog readers like short entries packed with solid information. Because people on the internet tend to glance or scan rather than read carefully, blogs are written with this in mind. Whether you post every day depends on two factors.

First, do you have something valuable to say? If you don’t have anything new or exciting to say, then don’t update. Readers would rather see an informative, interesting post every 3 or 4 days, then dull posts more frequently. If you’re wasting readers’ time with dull posts, you’ll find traffic to your site decreases.

Second, are you writing a blog that functions as a journal or catalogue of events? If you’re blogging about a cross country trip or dealing with a terminally ill child, then updating every day is appropriate. Something is happening every day, and it might not be exciting, but it will make your readers feel as if they are on the journey with you.

These are some guidelines for blog updates. In the end, you’re the best judge of when to update. Only you know your readers!

With the advent of the internet age, blogs have become a popular way to do everything from catch up on the news to find out what’s new with the grandkids. Whether you’re writing a blog to earn extra income or inform the public, your title is a key component of driving readers to your site. What makes a good blog title?

First, it shouldn’t be too long. The internet is all about speed. People want to glance at your title and get a feel for your topic without having to click around. The more succinctly you’re able to sum up your blog, the better.

Second, it should be clever and specific. When browsing the internet, readers are bombarded with text. Your title should stand out and make the reader curious enough to click on your blog. If you blog about a specific topic, your title should let other people know exactly what aspect you’re blogging about. Being funny never hurts; people are drawn to humor!

Be smart when choosing your blog title, and pick something that would catch your eye if you were surfing the internet. Your title is your reader’s first impression of your site, so make it clever!

Most people are familiar with blogs and know what they are. But many people have yet to realize the important marketing tools blogs can be. Writing interesting, relevant content and sharing your posts will attract new clients and keep existing customers informed. Nearly any business can benefit from having a blog.

As a business owner, you can publish articles related to your specific industry. Most businesses can benefit from a blog. Real estate brokers can write articles about staging homes for sale.I found some more information here. Landscapers can write about gardening in drought conditions. Construction company owners can write about home inspections.

Enabling comments on your blog encourages open dialogue between you and potential and existing clients. Invite blog visitors who consistently contribute quality comments to guest blog. This prevents you from having to write all content yourself and makes your blog more interesting.

If you haven’t already, sign up with social networking sites. Share each new blog article on these sites. Following others in your area of expertise encourages them to return the favor.

A blog can easily be a free extension of your business or website and shouldn’t be overlooked. A frequently updated, informative blog should be part of your marketing campaign.
